I was very glad to see that the cover story of the Communications of ACM, October 2008 issue, is an article closely related to my main research interests, namely bio-inspired computing: The Many Facets of Natural Computing, written by Lila Kari and Grzegorz Rozenberg. The original article can be found here, and another version with extended References list but with no picture can be found here. The paper offers a broad perspective on how biology and computer science are related, on how nature may be used as inspiration for computation, or on how nature itself computes; the authors mention the main trends and theories that appeared so far, some of results that were obtained, the perspectives, and some of the most important journals and book series aimed at the general natural computing community.
