This year (on the 5th of November ) Ioan Tomescu anniversates his 65th birthday. In honor of this occasion, Cristian Calude, Gheorghe Stefanescu and Marius Zimand hosted a special issue (Vol. 13, no. 11) of JUCS and organized a workshop at the Mathematics Institute of Romanian Academy. I have contributed to the special number of JUCS with a paper co-authored with Cezara Dragoi and Victor Mitrana entitled: "Accepting networks of splicing processors", and I have also presented this paper at the workshop. Both the paper for the special issue of JUCS and the workshop were good occasions to express my deep respect for Ioan Tomescu and to thank him for the influence he had (and still has) on my research career. Happy birthday Professor Tomescu!
